The feature documentary The Tall Man, produced by Darren Dale and written and directed by Tony Krawitz, has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival which runs from 8-18 September 2011.
Based on the award-winning book by Chloe Hooper, The Tall Man, which received investment from Screen Queensland, tells the story of Cameron Doomadgee’s death in custody on Palm Island.
“I’m immensely proud that the film raises the profile in some small way of the struggle for justice faced by Indigenous Australians in 2011, and it’s terrific that this important story of Australia’s race relations will be showcased to an international audience,” said producer Darren Dale.

UPDATE: Supplementary round announced for December 2011
With domestic production levels increasing in Queensland, Screen Queensland is experiencing increased pressure on funding. Due to the high number of applications for non-documentary production funding already received for the current financial year, Screen Queensland’s board has resolved to ensure a spread of funds to productions over the year in its management of the organisation’s resources, allowing it to be responsive to emerging opportunities while having funds available year-round.

Brisbane Writers Festival (BWF) and Screen Queensland will bring together the publishing and Queensland production industries in a special festival event, ‘Books to Box Office’, that could see an author’s work adapted into a film or television programme with the support of a Screen Queensland development package, worth up to $40,000.
