The 25th Village Roadshow Studios Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (QNFA) is now open for entries, Head of Screen Culture at Screen Queensland Richard Moore announced today.

Village Roadshow Studios QNFA is Australia’s longest running industry-sponsored competition for new filmmakers, and is an initiative that has long recognised and encouraged the achievements of emerging Queensland talent. The total prize pool is worth $20,000 in cash and prizes.

“We are using the occasion of the 25th anniversary of these awards to make significant changes” said Mr Moore.

“The entire event is now streamlined by reducing the number of categories by two-thirds to 13, focussing on significant areas in filmmaking deserving of recognition.

“We have also dropped the age barrier so that participants over 30-years-old can now enter.

“In addition, the Village Roadshow Studios QNFA returns to prime position at Queensland’s premier film event, the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF), which will raise the awards’ profile.”

A selection of finalists’ films will be screened as part of an awards ceremony during the festival. BIFF runs from 3 to 13 November 2011, and will celebrate a milestone of its own -- 20 years showing the best of Australian and world cinema to Brisbane audiences.

“Screen Queensland would like to thank all our sponsors of the award categories, and particularly Village Roadshow Studios for the generosity of its ongoing sponsorship of this competition, and for its support of Queensland’s active film industry,” Mr Moore said.

Entries for the QNFA close at 5pm on 27 September 2011. For full details on how to apply, applicants should visit the BIFF website at www.biff.com.au/qnfa.

Further details on the Village Roadshow Studios QNFA prize-giving ceremony will be announced with the BIFF program in October 2011.
