| INDUSTRY: Queensland’s 3D technology capacity expands with new 3D camera system, the first of its kind in Australia | | Print | |
Queensland’s award-winning Producer and Director Ross Isaacs has announced that his company, Ocean Planet 3D will have available the world's first underwater 3D camera system shooting in 5K resolution, DEEP ATOM, by the end of the year. Ross Isaacs’ film Humpbacks – From Fire to Ice recently won two 2011 Telly Awards for best documentary and best editing and he has previously won Best Director the 2009 Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival in Paris. The DEEP ATOM facility will be a one stop shop for producers who are shooting 3D productions both topside and underwater. The system is capable of shooting any production from 3D television, big screen features as well as full blown Imax films. DEEP ATOM will include in the core system, 2 Red Epic cameras attached to a state of the art Element Technica Atom, beam splitter camera platform in a Gates deep water underwater housing. DEEP ATOM will be supported by a post-production computer aray to carry out all digital work flows required to deliver 3D images to clients. The Ultrahigh resolution 5K underwater 3D camera unit will be able to shoot in adverse environmental situations such as in damp locations, snow, surf, rain and underwater to depths down to 60 meters plus. DEEP ATOM is also ideal for use in a studio location with an experienced underwater DP available for a wet stage situation. The entire camera system can be taken out of the underwater housing and used as a normal dry land 3D camera system. Ocean Planet 3D has world class stereographers and a fully trained 3D camera crew ready for any project with rebreather deep diving technology to support DEEP ATOM down to the ocean's depths. They are also planning to shoot 5K 3D background plates for CGI FX and will be maintaining a library of plates available to 3D CGI producers. In parallel with this initiative, Ocean Planet 3D is developing a number of blue chip 3D documentaries for the burgeoning 3D market. These will be high adventure films pushing the limits of underwater film making in the new medium of ultra high definition 3D. The films are science-based and may be character driven and explore some new and exciting locations and subject in the marine world. They also hope to attract 3D productions from Australia and South East Asia who can utilise this unique equipment on big screen features and Imax films.
