How do I get a job at Screen Queensland?

All positions at Screen Queensland are advertised externally through job placement websites. Positions are also advertised through our industry networks and email bulletins, such as, Onscreen, Twitter and Facebook.

Does Screen Queensland do work experience?

Currently, Screen Queensland does not have any work experience placements available.  However, consider contacting the office to see if there are any placements available.  During the annual Brisbane International Film Festival there is always a need for volunteers to assist in the event run smoothly.  Being a volunteer enables you to gain valuable work experience in the film industry and an insight into how a film festival operates.

Does Screen Queensland offer an internship programme?

Currently, Screen Queensland does not have any placements for interns.  However, depending on your interest, you could try looking at researching local production companies to see if they have any positions available. These can be sourced through the Encore Directory, IF Magazine and IMDB.  Here are some useful links on internship programmes and training.

Where can I find a course on film production?

While we can’t offer a preference on a particular course over another, below you can find a list of some universities and film schools:

  • QUT in Brisbane offers an excellent course on film production as do most universities.
  • Bond University also has a great film program and would be worth checking out what they have to offer and perhaps talking to course lecturers and tutors.
  • The Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) offer many courses that might be useful to the experienced and budding film maker alike. Check out their website and consider having a chat with some of the course counsellors.
  • QPIX also offers a range of short courses aimed at providing training for the novice film-maker.
  • Griffith University College of Art also offers a great programme.

If that is too many options, a great way to help you to decide is to look at graduates of both programs and see what they have done, go to their open days, read the course and subject options, see what you can combine your major with etc., and then make the best choice for you based on your research.
